The legal stuff
Nothing on this page is alleged
Everything else on this site is a joke. This page is not. It covers alcohol service, food allergies, pricing, private events, gift certificates, House Rewards, privacy and accessibility.
Alcohol service
You must be 21 or older with a valid, government-issued photo ID to buy or drink alcohol. We check ID every time, for everyone, no matter how long you have been a regular.
Under New York law, we will not sell or serve alcohol to anyone who is, or appears to be, under 21, or to anyone who is visibly intoxicated. Using a fake or altered ID is a crime in New York, and we may keep, and report, any ID we believe is not genuine.
Warning
No person shall sell or give away any alcoholic beverages to: 1. any person under the age of twenty-one years; or 2. any visibly intoxicated person.
Government Warning
According to the Surgeon General, women should not drink alcoholic beverages during pregnancy because of the risk of birth defects.
Our drink specials follow New York’s rules on promotions: we do not offer unlimited drinks for a fixed price, and we do not give away free alcohol. Open-bar packages are only offered for private events that are not open to the public.
Please drink responsibly and plan your ride home. Soft drinks, iced tea and coffee are free for your group’s designated driver.
Food allergies
If you have a food allergy or intolerance, please notify us.
Before placing your order, please inform your server if a person in your party has a food allergy.
Our kitchen uses all nine major food allergens: milk, eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soybeans and sesame. Dishes are prepared in a shared kitchen and fryer, so we cannot guarantee that any item is free of an allergen. Menu tags such as “GF” describe the ingredients in a dish, not a certified allergen-free preparation.
Consumer advisory
Consuming raw or undercooked meats, poultry, seafood, shellfish, or eggs may increase your risk of foodborne illness.
Items marked with an asterisk (*) on our menu are cooked to order and may be served raw or undercooked.
Prices, tax & gratuity
All prices are in US dollars and do not include New York State and local sales tax. Prices will be published here closer to opening.
No card surcharges. The price on the menu is the price, whether you pay by card or cash. If that ever changes, our menus will show the full card price, as New York law requires.
Large parties. For tables of 8 or more, a gratuity of 20% may be added to the check. We will always tell you before you order, and all of it goes to the staff who served you. For smaller tables, tipping is up to you.
Reservation policy
- Online reservations are for parties of up to 8. For larger groups, please send a private party inquiry.
- We hold tables for 15 minutes past the reservation time. After that, we may give the table away.
- On busy nights, tables are held for about 90 minutes.
- You can cancel at any time before your reservation using the link in your confirmation. We do not charge cancellation or no-show fees.
- Rarely, we may need to cancel or move a reservation (a private event, a power cut, a burst pipe). If we do, we will contact you as soon as possible.
- Online reservations are not open yet. Anything that looks like a booking system on this site is a preview until we announce an opening date.
Private event terms
- Sending an inquiry does not reserve a date. A date is booked only when both of us have signed an event agreement and the deposit is paid.
- Any package prices on this site are starting points. Final pricing, food and beverage minimums, deposits and cancellation terms are set out in your agreement.
- The final guest count is due five days before the event, and you will be charged for at least that number.
- Private events carry a gratuity, stated in your agreement. It is paid in full to the employees who work your event.
- We do not charge an administrative fee. If an event agreement ever includes one, it will be listed separately, and the agreement, menu and bill will state that the charge is for administration of the banquet, special function, or package deal, is not purported to be a gratuity, and will not be distributed as gratuities to the employees who provided service to the guests.
- All alcohol service rules above apply at private events. Guests under 21 are welcome, will be identified, and will not be served alcohol.
- Sales tax applies to food, beverages and any service charge that is not a gratuity.
Gift certificates
- They never expire, and we never charge fees on them: no service, dormancy or inactivity fees, and nothing for replacing one.
- Good for food and drinks at Allegedlys Bar & Grill. Spend it all at once or a little at a time; whatever is left stays on it. See what’s left on our gift certificates page, on the certificate’s own page (the link in its email, or its QR code), or at the bar.
- A certificate can’t be exchanged for cash, except where the law requires it. Paying with one doesn’t change who can drink: alcohol is only served to guests 21 and over with valid ID.
- Treat it like cash. Anyone with its code can spend it. If yours is lost or stolen, tell us: with its serial number, or the email address it was bought with, we will cancel the old code and QR code and give you new ones for whatever is left. We can’t get back what was spent before you told us.
- Every certificate has its own serial number, and its QR code carries that number with a security signature, so we can tell a genuine certificate from a fake. We may refuse a certificate that doesn’t check out.
- Bought online, it’s paid by card through Stripe, and we never see the card number. No sales tax is charged on a gift certificate; tax applies when it’s spent, as on any bill.
- Promotional certificates, the ones we give away (prizes, apologies, donations and the like), say “Promotional” on them. They have no cash value, can’t be sold or exchanged for cash, and can’t be spent on alcohol, because New York doesn’t allow free drinks. They are good through the date printed on them, if there is one.
House Rewards & membership
- House Rewards is free. Your House Points and rewards are kept in our point-of-sale system (Toast); My House, on this website, shows them to you. Points go on eligible purchases when your account is on the check.
- Rewards are never for alcohol. They’re for eligible food, non-alcoholic drinks, event admission, merchandise and the like, as My House shows. Membership pricing is subject to applicable law and program terms. Alcohol is only served to guests 21 and over with valid ID, whatever their membership.
- Paid memberships renew automatically (House Member monthly or yearly, the Founder’s Club yearly) at the price you joined at, until you cancel. Cancel any time in My House; your membership then runs to the end of the period you’ve paid for. Payments are made by card through Stripe, and we never see the card number.
- Missing points are added only after we check a claim against our records. A photo of a receipt doesn’t add points by itself.
House rules
- No smoking or vaping anywhere inside, as required by New York’s Clean Indoor Air Act. If we have a smoking area outside, it will be clearly signed.
- Service animals are welcome everywhere. Under the ADA, a service animal is a dog trained to perform tasks for a person with a disability; emotional-support animals are not service animals.
- Pet dogs may be allowed in an outdoor dining area only, on a leash and at the staff’s discretion, as New York law permits. They are not allowed inside.
- Guests under 21 are welcome with a parent or guardian until 9pm.
- We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone who is disruptive, abusive or unsafe. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, age, disability, or any other characteristic protected by law.
Privacy policy
This policy explains what Allegedlys Bar & Grill (“we”) collects through this website and what we do with it. The short version: we collect what we need to seat you or plan your party, we keep it safe, and we do not sell it.
What we collect
- Reservations: your name, email, phone number, party size, date and time, occasion, any notes you give us, and whether you asked for text updates.
- Private party inquiries: your name, email, phone, company (if you give one), event details, budget range (if you give one) and notes.
- Job applications: your name, email, phone, the jobs, hours and shifts you are interested in, and the experience you tell us about. It is emailed to the person doing the hiring, kept in our admin area, and used only to consider you for work.
- Investor interest list: if you tell us you might invest, your name, email, phone number and the state you live in, and, if you give them, roughly how much you might consider, whether you think you’re an accredited investor, how you know us and any note. We also record that you ticked the box saying you read the notice on that page, which version of it you saw, and when. Only the owner sees it (it’s also emailed to the owner), and it’s used only to contact you about a possible investment. It never goes on our mailing list.
- Gift certificates: if you buy one, your name and email address (for your receipt, and to find the certificate if it’s lost), and the name, email address and note for the person it’s for, with the day to send it. We keep a record of what’s spent on each certificate. Card payments are handled by Stripe under its own privacy policy; we never see or store card numbers.
- Mailing list (“Get on the List”): your email address and/or phone number. If you tick the box for texts, we also keep a record of your agreement: the wording you agreed to and when. Before we write to you, we ask you to confirm: an email address gets a link to click, and a phone number gets one text asking you to reply YES. We keep when you confirmed. Until you do, we send nothing else.
- House Rewards and My House: your first name (and last name, if you give it), mobile number and email address; your birthday’s month and day, if you give them (never the year); the kinds of nights you like and your message choices, if you give them; when you agreed to the terms; when you confirmed your number or email with a sign-in code; your member numbers; and which account in our point-of-sale system is yours. We never ask for a password. Your House Points, rewards and purchase history are kept by Toast, our point-of-sale provider, under its own privacy policy; My House asks Toast for them to show you, and we don’t keep a copy.
- Paid memberships: your plan, when it started and renews, and whether it’s cancelled. Payments are made by card through Stripe, under its own privacy policy; we never see or store card numbers.
- Missing-points claims: the check number, the day, roughly what you spent, your notes and a receipt photo if you send one, with your contact details, and a record of how staff dealt with it.
- The Founder’s list: your name, email and, if you give it, phone number.
- Messages: if you write to us through our contact form, your name, email address and message. Only the owner sees them (each one is also emailed to the owner), and we use them only to answer you and to do what you ask.
- Campaign links and QR codes: when you arrive through one of our marketing links (a QR code on a flyer, a table card or a receipt, a link in a post), we add one to that link’s count of visits for the day. We don’t record who you are. Where you came from is remembered for the rest of your visit, so if you then join the mailing list or House Rewards, book a table, send a party inquiry or a missing-points claim, or buy a membership, we know which link brought you. We also count, by the day, visits to the House Rewards pages and presses of their main buttons, again without recording who you are.
- Visitor numbers: we count, by the day, how many people visit the site and how many pages they open. So that you’re counted once however many pages you open, a cookie holds the date of your last visit (see “Cookies and similar”). We don’t record who you are or which pages you looked at.
- Technical information: our web host keeps standard server logs, including IP addresses, for security. If someone repeatedly fails to sign in to our admin area, we store a scrambled (hashed) version of their IP address for 15 minutes to block further attempts. When you send one of our forms, we keep a scrambled version of your IP address for up to an hour (a day, for missing-points claims), to stop floods of spam. When we send a My House sign-in code, we keep a scrambled version of the number or address it went to, for the rest of that day, so no one can have codes sent to it over and over.
How we use it
To manage your reservation or event, to contact you about it, to keep our records, and to protect the site from abuse. We will not send you marketing emails or texts unless you separately ask us to, for example by joining our mailing list. Every email to the list has a link to unsubscribe, and you can reply STOP to any text.
Who we share it with
We do not sell or rent your information. Staff who manage bookings, gift certificates or House Rewards can see it, and it is stored by our web hosting provider and passed through our email provider (and, for texts, Twilio) when we send confirmations and sign-in codes. Gift certificates and memberships bought online are paid through Stripe. Your House Rewards points and purchases are kept by Toast, our point-of-sale provider. If we go ahead with raising money, our attorney and accountant may see the investor interest list. We may disclose information if the law requires it.
Cookies and similar
We use three cookies. One keeps your session working (it protects our forms against forgery, keeps admins and My House signed in, and remembers which campaign link or QR code, if any, you arrived through); it is deleted when you close your browser. One holds only the date of your last visit, so our count of visitors counts you once (on a browser that has been signed in to our admin area, it says so instead, so staff aren’t counted); it lasts 400 days from your last visit, and we use it for nothing else. The third is only set if you leave “Keep me signed in on this device” ticked when you open My House or join House Rewards (untick it on a shared computer): it holds a random key, of which we keep only a scrambled copy, so that browser can open My House without a new code for 180 days after your last visit. Signing out deletes it, and “Sign out everywhere” cancels it on every device. The “coming soon” notice uses your browser’s session storage to remember that you have seen it. The “Get on the List” popup uses your browser’s local storage to remember that you closed it (so it waits 30 days before asking again) or that you signed up (so it never asks again). Both stay in your browser; we never see them, and you can clear them in your browser’s settings. We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels or outside analytics services.
This site loads fonts from Google Fonts, which means your browser contacts Google’s servers and Google receives your IP address. Links to Instagram and Facebook take you to those services, which have their own privacy policies.
How long we keep it
Reservation records are deleted automatically about 13 months after the reservation date. Private party inquiries are kept for as long as we need them for the event and our business records, and then deleted. Job applications are kept for as long as we need them for hiring and our records, and then deleted. Gift certificate records are kept while there’s money on the certificate, and after that for as long as our business and tax records need them. Mailing list details are kept until you unsubscribe; after that we keep only a record that you unsubscribed, so we don’t contact you again. Ask and we’ll delete it entirely. A My House account is kept until you close it (in My House, under your details) or ask us to; a sign-up that’s never confirmed with its code is deleted after a day. Membership and missing-points records are kept for as long as our business and tax records need them. The Founder’s list is kept until the Founder’s Club has opened and you’ve heard from us, or until you ask to come off it. The investor interest list is kept until we’ve finished raising money (or decided not to) and you’ve heard from us, or until you ask to come off it. Messages sent through the contact form are kept for as long as we need them to answer you and for our records, and then deleted. Closing My House doesn’t delete what Toast keeps; ask us at the bar and we’ll have that removed too.
Security
We take reasonable administrative, technical and physical steps to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), a password-protected admin area with sign-in limits, and storing data where it cannot be reached from the web. If a breach ever affected your personal information, we would notify you as New York law requires.
Your choices
You can ask us to show you, correct or delete the information we hold about you, or to take you off any of our lists, through our contact form. This website is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Text messages
If you tick the box on the reservation form, we may text you about that reservation only: a confirmation, a reminder and any changes. Message frequency depends on your booking, usually one to three messages. Consent to texts is never a condition of making a reservation.
If you tick the box when joining our mailing list (“Get on the List”), or when you join House Rewards, we first send one text asking you to reply YES. Once you do, we may send you texts about our opening, events and news, up to 4 a month. We send these marketing texts only to people who have agreed to them and confirmed their number.
When you join House Rewards, open My House, or confirm a new number there, we may text a six-digit sign-in code to the number you give (North American +1 numbers only; others get it by email). We send one only when you ask for it, it never carries marketing, and asking for one signs you up for nothing else.
For all our texts: message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out at any time, or HELP for help. Agreeing to texts is never a condition of any purchase.
Accessibility
We want everyone to be able to use this website. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, level AA: the site works with a keyboard and screen readers, text has strong contrast, animations respect your device’s reduced-motion setting, and every form field is labeled.
If anything on this site is hard to use, or you need information in another format, please send us a message and we will help, and fix it. Details about the physical accessibility of our space will be published once we have a building.
